Our beliefs

What does ALBA stand for?

We believe in four core principles – Altruism, Love, Benevolence and Action.

Unity in Diversity:

We believe in religious pluralism built upon the mutual respect, understanding and tolerance of the devotees of the different faiths.  Within this diversity, we also count those of no religious belief.

Dignity, Kindness, Civility & Respect:

We believe in treating all fellow human beings with dignity, kindness, civility and respect, regardless of age, race, gender, sexuality, nationality, faith or social status. We do not tolerate prejudice, sectarianism or incitement of hatred in any form.

Interconnectedness & Community:

We believe in the interconnectedness of humankind and that we all, each belong to a greater whole.

Equality:

We believe in the equality of all human beings regardless of age, race, gender, sexuality, faith/ religious belief, background, “class”, societal or educational “status” and in the individual’s and society’s moral duty to seek to promote and uphold this equality for all.

Poverty:

We believe that everyone has the right to a decent standard of living and in supporting those who have been made vulnerable by the harmful effects of poverty.

Religion, Science & Humanity:

We believe that human freedom, individual conscience and unencumbered rational, scientific inquiry and religious faith/ spirituality are not mutually exclusive concepts.

Support and Advocacy:

We believe in helping those in need and supporting society’s vulnerable in a spirit of love and kindness, in a non-judgemental and inclusive manner.

Charity & Acts of Kindness:

We believe in supporting charitable causes and in the importance of donating time and practical assistance to charitable causes.   We also believe in and promote acts of kindness in day to day living.

Kindness to Animals:

We believe that animals are sentient beings, each with a unique consciousness of their own, capable of the same array of emotions as human beings.  We believe animals experience fear, pain and suffering just as human beings do and should be treated in a kind and compassionate way at all times to prevent unnecessary suffering.
